Folks frequently ask us, “how’s the market?” Our response is generally, “inconsistent, fits & starts, up & down”. When asked what the future holds we have responded, “it depends greatly on the local job market. If we can get an infusion of positive news in that regard, the benefits to the housing market should be felt immediately”.
Today’s news that BOEING and the Machinists Union have struck a long term deal, without media glare or under the pressure of an ill-advised strike, is unexpected great news for the region. The fact this was conducted behind closed doors denied the media its chance to impose on the discussions and skew the outcome with out-of-context quotes and accusations. Perhaps that is why it succeeded, and is an extraordinarily solid pact.
Without the media run-up of speculation, this pact may not have the full attention of everyone just yet, but it will be longer lasting than past accords as it was conceived without the pressure of lost production due to a workers’ strike, and workers making due with Union stipends.
Puget Sound couldn’t have asked for a better Holiday gift. Rejoice!
